Since photography was invented, people have photographed the human body. The logical next step was to shoot people having sex as well. It's true we don't live in a black and white world, the problem thus arose of how to take pictures of people nude and having sex in color. For years the main solution to this problem was to hand paint the print. In the case of French Postcards, the artist hand painted each card with water colors. For those who could afford it, oil painted prints were the best of both worlds. Some would print the photograph on canvas to make the painting easier and more permanent. This is a long lost art form, not likely to be revised with the advent of computers, etc.. Those without paints would produce a color effect by using different chemicals in the printing process, like sepia or others to produce color tints in their work.

Our first examples include the afore mentioned French Postcards, hand painted stereoscopic prints, some artsy oil painted nudes and some early hardcore in color.

Now in our next offering of pics, we'll fast forward to the 50's and find that Kodak has made color photography affordable for the common man / woman. We have some fine examples of Amateur Exoticism, Strippers at home and play, some Promo shots, some pro pics and even a color Betty Page shot for good measure. Please note that in this time period, the emphasis was on Nylons (pre-pantyhose), Legs and Hair-Doos.
